Metalsmithing /Silver smithing FUTURES PROGRAM- 6 MONTHS- STARTS MARCH!

Our Futures Program is a Metalsmithing and Silversmithing program designed for both children and adults who wish to learn and develop ongoing skills in this incredible art form. Guided by a professional metal and silversmith, participants will explore a wide range of silversmithing skills and techniques across several weeks of hands-on workshops.

Upon completion of the program, participants will have the confidence, knowledge, and practical experience to continue pursuing silversmithing as a creative hobby or independent project. The course provides a strong foundation in tool use, safety, and technical processes.
Each participant who completes the full program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

 Choose to attend single workshops or purchase as a bundle 

Workshops run for 4 hours  each & will  focus on a different skill / technique and project for each workshop

SESSION  1- Monday 16th March - 10am- 1pm  Introduction to metal smithing with the use of saw, drill and metal glues using Aluminium, brass and copper fabrics- Make up to 2 pieces - choose your own designs from key rings, earrings, badges, necklace, design your own.

SESSION  2-Monday 13th April  -10am- 1pm  Metal smithing  Open Cuff designs  -Choose a selection of metals and explore the texture and hammering technique to make 2-3 open style cuff bangles , making the design from scratch, advancing on skills from session 1- learning about the process and equipment as you go.

SESSION  3-Saturday 9th May   10am- 3pm  Metalsmithing 101 - pendant & stud earrings soldering workshop

4 hour Experience looking into basic soldering techniques and skills- making one pair of stud earrings and one necklace pendant design, techniques  include  sawing and basic soldering to attach the stud posts and pendant bail.

-Choose  your design and a selection of metals  to choose to design from. Explore the texture and soldering processes

SESSION 4- Friday 19th June - 10am- 3pm Ring Design using metal smithing recycled fabrics such as copper, aluminium and brass- focus lesson on stretching, pattern making, sanding and polishing metal techniques- Make 2-3 rings by the end of the class in your choice of metals

SESSION 5- Friday 17th July  - 10am - 3pm Ring design using pure silver- using our  learned techniques  from prior lesson to advance on to solder, pattern and texture techniques  , design and create your stunning  sterling silver rings - 3 RINGS using sterling silver ,brass  & copper 

SESSION 6-  Friday 21st Aug - 10am - 3pm  Intro to Silversmithing Bangle Making with Charms. 5 hours Bangle design using pure silver- using our  learned techniques  from prior lesson to advance on to solder, pattern and texture techniques  ,hammering, patina, polishing and fundamental design  create your stunning  sterling silver bangles  - 3 bangles  using sterling silver ,brass  & copper 

If purchasing the full course - you will be gifted with some metal smithing tools

( RRP $200)  at the end of the experience to go forward and explore this incredible craft further. You will also receive discounts for further metalsmith experiences  at grounded village studio, an  exclusive piece of handmade jewellery and $20 discount off your total amount - This is for full course payments both children and adults.

All participants will receive a certificate per experience 

 Children’s / Adults  Intro to Metal Smithing/ silversmithing  futures program is an Open Making Workshop for all  to learn this incredible skill to open up a world of possibility for future career/ hobby/ maker options or simply have a bit of fun learning a new skill. Parents are most welcome to join in themselves for our homeschoolers with a paying ticket or stay to help their children free of charge- UNDER 10's will need a parent to stay unless approved prior - if unsure please contact us here 

Under the guide of  professional Silversmith Jemica Ostrofski, learn how to design and fabricate texture, create, jewellery using recycled metals and pure silver.

The basic- more advanced metal smithing / silver smith techniques of mark making , solder and many other skills will be explored using various
hammers, letter stamps, flame torch, number stamps and other silversmithing tools.
The workshops will run for 4 hours each  and students can make 2-3 pieces. Depending on the type of jewellery chosen, they have the option of making a necklace, earrings, key ring, adjustable ring, and lot more.The option to purchase additional metals  or kits is also available

CONDITIONS
This workshop is designed for children aged 8 years to 17 years, adults and teens.

 children under 10 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult

There is a minimum  of 3 and maximum for 6 participants for this workshop to go ahead- if the workshop does not go ahead you will be refunded or a rescedule may be offered.

This is part of our GROUNDED VILLAGE FUTURES PROGRAM 

A wonderful eye opening experience for children/ adults  to explore a worlds of creative futures and what a career in metal smithing/ silversmithing may look like plus embrace creativity and design.

There will be tea/ coffee/ water/ juice and refreshments on offer, you are most welcome to bring your own lunch or order from the cafe upstairs for delivery to the studio.
